Site24x7 Monitoring Server: IP Updates

Going forward all IP related changes/updates will be captured in this thread. You could follow this topic to receive notifications if there are any new posts made on this thread. Additionally, we'll also notify you via email about IP related updates, so that you're well aware of all the new IPs and whitelist them in your firewall policy. 

Another way to stay updated about IP Address changes is by using the "Follow this topic" button on the right top of this post. That would send an email whenever this post is updated!

Added on April 4, 2016: We have also added a unified domain name, site24x7.enduserexp.com. All our monitoring location IP addresses will be mapped to this domain name. By periodically resolving this domain name, you can achieve an automated IP whitelisting process; thereby ensuring a constantly updated database firewall policy.

We are glad to announce the release of our unified domain name, site24x7.enduserexp.com. We've mapped all our monitoring location IP addresses to this domain name. I am evaluating Site24x7 and generally like what I see but one thing that is massively undermining my confidence in the reliability and security of your systems is that you keep probing my sites from IP addresses in China or unlisted IP addresses and reporting that you are testing from US cities. This is not OK. When you report that a site was unreachable from "Denver - US" but you did not test from Denver, you tested from Shanghai, China... you not only give a false alert but you trigger a series of troubleshooting of infrastructure that would pertain to traffic from Denver had a test from that location actually failed.

 

In the past 12 hours you have falsely reported failures from the following IP addresses, including two that do not exist in your IP Address list at all and are also not found with a search of this forum:

Have you been hacked or are you unable to keep up with your own system updates? Please tell me there is a good explanation that can restore confidence in your service.

Two updates:

1) The IP address 104.237.139.25 is in the latest downloadable list of IP addresses but not the prior version and it was not included in the messages posted to this form announcing new IP addresses.

2) My site was just probed from another improper IP address:

Hi,

Our sincere apologies for the difficulties caused because of the issue with Site24x7 polling from locations other than the configured locations and we assure you that we are working in our end on the reported issues.

The IP address 104.237.139.25 belongs to one of our Dallas servers, which was moved to production unknowingly and this will be added to our list of location servers as part of our next update. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused because of the same. We have removed this IP address now and hence monitoring will not happen from this IP address going further till this is released in our website.

The IP address 58.87.64.176 belongs to our Beijing location server and this is already listed in our web page. I understand that you did not find it in a specific list. We request you to let us know the specific list that you used for our reference.

Regarding the issue with Site24x7 triggering monitoring from locations other than the configured locations, currently when one of the location servers is unavailable, the monitoring is triggered from an alternate location to avoid false alerts. We understand that this is causing confusion and troubleshooting that could have been avoided otherwise.

We are currently working on providing an option for the users to restrict monitoring only from the selected locations and this is in development stage. We will update you once this is Live in Site24x7 and we assure you that this will ensure that the monitoring is triggered only from the locations that you have configured for the specific monitor in Site24x7.

I have also responded to your support request on the same and we will schedule a call for further discussion.

Would be nice if there could be a way to break these up by region.. So instead of just a huge list like we currently have with site24x7.enduserexperience.com there could be something like:

Of if you can get granular with the US since there are so many groups there, you could break that down by state, for example:

  • seatle-us.site24x7.enduserexperience.com
  • losangeles-us.site24x7.enduserexperience.com

We currently block connections from certain regions and just doing all IPs goes against our best practices.
